Mateusz Mendel

I'm an RNA biologist and Principal Scientist at Roche in Basel, working across functional genomics, RNA therapeutics and small-molecule drug discovery. I design complex models for cellular screens and build CRISPR-based functional genomics platforms, bridging the gap between basic biology and practical drug discovery. This builds on the rigorous foundation in RNA methylation and gene expression that I laid during my PhD at the University of Geneva.

Transitioning from academia to industry exposes a critical gap: the skills transfer, but the framing doesn't. Having navigated that transition myself, I actively mentor PhDs and postdocs and regularly deliver career talks to students to help them decipher the industry landscape and position themselves for impactful roles.
